Asthma - Ayurvedic Therapy

What is asthma?

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease. In Ayurveda, asthma is called Swasa Roga. Once you have asthma, it can take a long time to get rid of it. In some extreme cases, asthma can last even a lifetime. Interestingly, asthma is the most common disease in children. There is no universally accepted definition of asthma because asthma is a condition in which interrelated symptoms coexist. In general, inflammation and contraction of the airways cause difficulty in breathing, and increased susceptibility to any substance that may be inhaled is a common feature of asthma.

However, the Ayurvedic medical system clearly distinguishes between different types of asthma. Ayurveda believes that when the body's three body fluids - Vata, Pita and Kappa - are in equilibrium, the body will be healthy. Any deviation from this balance can lead to disease. Based on these humorous advantages, Ayurveda defines three types of asthma.

1. from

Vata type

In cases of Vata type asthma, dry cough and wheezing are the main symptoms. Asthma attacks occur in the early morning and evening. Other symptoms include thirst, dry cough and skin, and constipation. Psychologically, patients may exhibit symptoms of anxiety and ask for hot drinks.

2. from

Pitta type

Dry cough, breathing with snoring or snoring, jaundice is a common symptom of pita type asthma. Asthma attacks usually occur at night and at noon. Some patients have fever and sweating. Psychological symptoms include irritability and the need for cool air.

3. from

Kappa type

Symptoms of kapha-type asthma include a hoarse voice and a cough accompanied by white and rich sputum. Most attacks occur in the morning and evening.

According to Bhagavan Dash, "Ayurveda Handbook" #3; there are five types of asthma. According to him, asthma originates in the lungs, passes through the rasas channel, and then reaches the lungs extremely.

1. from

Maha Swahsa [Great Asthma]

In the case of large asthma, the patient feels pain and discomfort while breathing. Although he may try hard, he will not be satisfied with the deep breath. Patients may sometimes lose consciousness. The movement of the eyes can be noticed from side to side. The patient will not be able to shut up and be unable to speak. There are obstacles in the passage of urine and feces. This is a dangerous situation.

2. from

Urdhava Swasa

In this case, the patient will be able to exhale perfectly; however, he cannot effectively inhale. This results in a reduction in oxygen supply to a variety of body parts, including vital organs such as the brain and heart. Sometimes, patients may experience increased chest pain. Headaches are also related to Urdhava swasa.

3. from

Chinna Swasa

A notable symptom of chinna swasa is the unbearable pain in the chest. Breathing is broken and sometimes stops suddenly. Bloating due to gas accumulation.

4. from

Tamaka Swasa or allergic asthma

The movement path of the vata in the body is usually downward. However, in the case of allergic asthma, it takes the opposite route and stiffens the head and neck. Kapha also exacerbates and causes a runny nose and a gloomy face. As a result, the airway is blocked and a snoring breath is produced. Sometimes unbearable pain can occur in the patient's chest and head. Dry cough, less phlegm, is another sign of allergic asthma. The patient may have a sore throat and then prevent him from falling asleep. The patient may need a hot drink, and a cold condition may aggravate his condition. If the pitta imbalance involves allergic asthma, it can cause burning sensation, fainting and indigestion.

5. from

Ksudra Swasa

It is easy to cure and is caused by the suppression of natural impulses and greasy food.

In the Ayurvedic tradition, practitioners do not blame pollen, dust and other pathogenic factors. Ayurveda strives to bring the balance back to the body so that pollen, dust, etc., which may cause asthma, have no effect on your body. Once the system returns to normal balance, you can live your life like anyone else. Once the balance is restored, you can go out and smell the earth and flowers and feel the rain. Please note that not everyone will develop asthma due to pollen, dust, etc. So it's not pollen that causes asthma in nature, but your body imbalance is the culprit.
