Acupuncture for Scoliosis

In my years as an acupuncturist, I treated many cases of scoliosis. Although traditional medicine considers this to be a condition that is difficult to correct without the use of a brace or surgery, I have found that many cases are very sensitive to acupuncture reactions. In general, this condition is usually due to the intensity imbalance between the left and right sides of the back. There may also be an imbalance in the spine and the spine must be compensated.

The general method of treating patients with scoliosis is to strengthen the weaker side of the back and relax the tighter, stronger side of the back. Along the bladder meridian point, the Huatujiaji point and the point along the meridian. There is also a Japanese agreement to use the magnets I found to be very effective to balance the sides of the hips.

Certain herbs can also improve results by helping strengthen the back. Chinese herbal medicines that focus on clearing stagnant and tonifying energy are very helpful. The western herb Solomon's tincture also balances the tendons and ligaments on both sides of the back while strengthening the spine.

I have seen that C-shaped and S-shaped curvature respond well to treatment. Of the majority of the customers I've worked with, the curve actually decreases over time. People also see improvements in reducing pain and discomfort. In my practice, I saw an improvement in the curve to 45 degrees during the weeks of treatment. After a course of treatment, I often see significant improvements in the angle of curvature.

Recently, Taiwan has a study on acupuncture treatment of scoliosis.

Alternative medical journal from

In 2009, a study on acupuncture treatment of adult degenerative scoliosis was published. The researchers found that after six weeks of treatment, the curvature of the spine of patients with a 35-degree curve was reduced by 10 degrees. This is a two-year routine treatment that fails to prevent the patient from developing curvature.

In order to let people see the best effect of acupuncture treatment of scoliosis, it is important to strengthen the weak side of the back by using it for weight-bearing activities, and regularly stretch the stronger side of the back to ease the storage tension. In the end, the body develops greater symmetry, and the spine has the ability to correct itself to a large extent.
